Since joining the Law Group of Iowa in 2021, Jason Yates has built a strong reputation as a strategic and effective litigator, with a growing emphasis on complex trucking and commercial vehicle crash cases. His practice focuses on serious personal injury litigation, where he leverages his deep understanding of insurance defense tactics to advocate for individuals and families harmed by negligence, particularly in cases involving semi-trucks and other commercial carriers.
Jason’s trial work reflects a commitment to preparation, clarity, and client-centered advocacy. He has successfully handled cases involving catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, and multi-defendant liability, often navigating complicated issues of broker/carrier relationships and federal trucking regulations. His approach combines the insights of a seasoned claims professional with the drive of a relentless advocate.
Prior to joining the Law Group of Iowa, Jason founded his own firm, where he advised clients on estate planning and trust matters while also defending landowners in high-stakes eminent domain disputes. His legal experience also includes advising nonprofit and economic development organizations on New Market Tax Credit transactions and other mission-driven initiatives.
Jason began his professional journey in community development, first with a South Dakota Indian tribe and later overseeing a small business lending program in Iowa. These roles shaped his understanding of how legal systems affect everyday lives and continue to inform his thoughtful, grounded approach to litigation.
He is a graduate of Drake University Law School with Honors and holds a Certificate in Food and Agricultural Law. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Bonaventure University, where he was closely involved with the men’s basketball team, an experience that honed his collaborative and competitive instincts.
Jason lives in West Des Moines and enjoys golf, travel, and staying connected with his now college-aged children. His practice is built on integrity, preparation, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people he represents.
