Employment Discrimination Lawyer

There are many forms of discrimination and sometimes they are very subtle. If you believe you are being discriminated against at work, you likely want it to stop and you may be able to receive compensation for any losses you experienced. The best way to determine whether you should file a lawsuit against your employer is by seeking counsel from a lawyer that specializes in employment discrimination. An experienced lawyer will be able to help you navigate the complicated legal system and advise you on what courses of action you can take.

Gender Discrimination

One of the most common forms of gender discrimination is unequal pay. Men and women with the same experience in the same position should receive equal salaries and benefits. In addition, men and women should be given the same responsibilities and opportunities in the by the employer regardless of their sex.

Racial Discrimination

It is illegal to discriminate against an employee or hiring candidate based on the color of their skin or their ethnic heritage. This may take the form of an employee or employer using racially insensitive language in the workplace, an employee not receiving the same promotions or raises as their peers, or a qualified job applicant being passed over for an interview based on their race.

Age Discrimination

An employer is not allowed to discriminate against its employees based on their age. A company cannot pay younger workers more or older workers less or choose to promote younger employees strictly based on their age.

Disability Discrimination

A qualified person who has a disability should be equally considered for employment along with fellow candidates with no disability. In addition, employers are required to make “reasonable accommodations” for employees with disabilities. This could take the form of making modifications to the workplace, providing special equipment or adjusting the work schedule so that a disabled person can successfully do their job.

Pregnancy Discrimination

An employer is not allowed to treat an employee differently because she is pregnant. Pregnancy should be handled in the same way that other non-permanent medical conditions are. An employer cannot reduce a person’s benefits, salaries, or deny them a promotion because they are pregnant.

There are many other forms of discrimination including religious beliefs, sexual orientation, medical condition, and your relationship with someone else that is benign discriminated against. If you believe you have been discriminated against, an employment discrimination lawyer from a firm like Eric Siegel Law can help you understand what recourse you can take to ensure that you and others receive the justice you deserve.
